As I sat to create the June edition of Light is Sweet I felt a tickle in my throat and started sneezing. This turned into an extreme bout of flu – which laid me out for two weeks. Therefore the program was set back. But at last here we go.
This is your chance to sit back, take a deep breath and open the mail.
Download the pictures.
And step into the world of watercolour.
The music is from Mike.
The Lanzerac Collection

Here is the sketch and the first washes of my watercolour of the lounge on Lanzerac Wine Estate. The final version is in the posting of the Lanzerac Collection.
Art4Seasons Exhibition
The next Art4Seasons exhibition will be opening on 04 August 2024 at Broadlands Manor. These openings have become a a pleasant social event. Merissa curates a great collection of art from artists in the basin and the staff at Broadlands Manor make excellent pizzas. I will be showing two paintings from Boulders Beach as well as a wall hanging of Fruit Sketches.

Fruit Sketchbook
I have opened a new category in my gallery to present sketches of fruit. Here are some initial entries on the gallery.

Tankwa Karoo Collection
Earlier in the 2024 I joined a trip of the Honorary Rangers to the Tankwa Karoo. The HRs were renovating a farm house in the Tankwa Karoo National Park. They take school tours into the park and were creating a concrete floor in a barn on the farm. I went along to collect photographic material for a Tankwa Karoo Collection. I created the first two paintings but then changed my focus to work on my Lanzerac Collection. There are some paintings sketched but no watercolour applied.
Here is a view from the farm looking towards Ganaga Pass:

Each of these watercolours is 1500 by 1000mm which for me was a large scale at the time (2009). I now have some large sheets of watercolour paper and intend to do these views again.
Watercolour Classes
After a few false-starts (Last week our road was closed as a result of flooding) I will be running a Kitting Up class starting this coming Thursday.
OK – There we go:
“Light is Sweet” for June 2024 is out there
