Picking apples in Elgin

This is hard, hard work.   I don’t know how heavy the full bag is but the apples must be gently released in the bin to avoid bruising.  And the team works from morning till evening.
This team worked silently with only muted conversations.  Each picking team has a foreman to manages the quality of the harvest.  That is the foreman there in the red overall.  I could not help notice the tough hands of the pickers.  The chap in the middle distance was not wearing a glove.  Since the day I took these photos I never taken a ripe, unblemished apple for granted.
