Description

Jagged Rocks – False Bay

The jagged shales below Clarence Drive stand over the rounded quartzite boulders. I wonder how they could stand so long as I am sure the shales are not as hard as the quartzites. And I have noticed how sections of the shales are broken out from time to time. There are massive swells pounding this shore in Winter. This makes fishing hazardous.
Once I found a large boulder about the size of a family washing machine that had been heaved up from the deep. It was encrusted with kelp and coral attachments and had obviously been down there a long time. There must have been some dramatic dynamics to raise this boulder. Or maybe the attached kelp had served to lift the rock in the winter swell.
These are interesting thoughts to hold onto while walking on the shore.
