The Lourens River flows from Somerset West to Strand through a stretch of “No-Mans Land”.  Victoria Road runs down one long border of the land so (I assume) this gave the name.  It is an extremely valuable free-access area.  However vagrants live along the banks and it is another dodgy area.

The painting shows a rocky bank on the river.  That is Helderberg on the horizon.
