The Lourens River flows from Somerset West to Strand through a stretch of “No-Mans Land”. Victoria Road runs down one long border of the land so (I assume) this gave the name. It is an extremely valuable park. However vagrants live along the banks and it is another dodgy area.
But here is my first watercolour of the park. That is a struggling Yellow Wood in the foreground (Podocarpus Latifolius or Falcatus – I don’t remember which) and a dry sloot which I suppose takes the runoff into the river. You can see Diepgat Kloof in the Hottentots Holland where the river begins.
I used this watercolour in the 2023 Lourens River Calendar.
